About Us

Cranko Architects’ work responds to the unique characteristics of each project.  We instill light and views,  plan good internal flow and relationships within buildings, and provide indoor-outdoor living opportunities.  Our current and previous design work include new commercial, residential and community projects.  We respect the integrity of existing structures and enjoy the challenge of integrating new facilities within and alongside them. We work together with our clients to respond to feelings, needs, wants and budget.  Most of our work is gained by referral and repeat commissions. We have the commitment to see projects out over a long period and have worked successfully in the Wellington area and beyond for nearly thirty years. We have an environmentally sustainable and practical approach to building architecture. Cranko Architects networks with local Wellington practice groups to share and test ideas with our peers.

 Heritage

Heritage buildings provide a link between the past and present in the fabric of our built environment.   Cranko Architects is experienced in preparing Conservation Plans, Heritage Impact Assessments and Heritage Incentive Fund applications.   We can help integrate structural strengthening and respect building character to renovate or restore in line with ICOMOS NZ principles.

If you want more information on how we can help with rejuvenation of heritage  please  contact us. Also look at the Wellington City Council Heritage Website where there is a wealth of information about heritage properties in Wellington.

Sustainable Design

Sustainable design is much more than the use of materials or the integration of advanced technology.   It’s about good design at the outset.

We locate buildings to receive optimum light and warmth from the sun with care to avoid overheating in summer and the wind micro-climate and neighbouring buildings and vegetation.  We suggest materials that perform  efficiently  and with a minimum of harm or impact.

In addition, we are able to assist with information on the benefits and drawbacks of  technologies .  Relevant ones include solar technology, water collection, residential power generation and suitable construction technologies.
