The owners wanted to make good use of the winter sun for their new house at their newly-established vineyard.
They anticipated having space for both themselves and out-of-town friends or bed and breakfast guests. The house’ bananas’ about the entrance/porte cochere, with the east wing containing living and their bedroom, and the west wing visitors’ breakfast room and kitchen /dining.
Facing north, the paved areas in the gallery that connects these spaces absorb heat in winter, and high level windows vent in summer. This pivoted shape means all the house opens out onto the pool area. An automatically retracting cover avoids the need for pool fencing.
